Resources for Mental Health Support

At McManus Counseling, we are dedicated to supporting your mental health journey both within our practice and by connecting you with additional resources in the community.

 

Below is a selection of local and online not-for-profit organizations that offer valuable services to individuals and families in Central Massachusetts.

We encourage you to explore these resources to find the support that best fits your needs. Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength, and you are not alone on this journey.

Local Resources

MAFF

The Massachusetts Alliance for Foster Families is an advocacy association dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for children who cannot live with their biological families and for the families who care for them.

Safe Homes

Safe Homes, a program supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex and asexual (LGBTQIA+) young people, and their straight allies, between the ages of 14 and 23.

PPAL

The PPAL Central MA office offers free support to families when children have emotional, behavioral or mental health needs. PPAL is staffed by family support professionals who have lived experience raising children with behavioral needs.

Rise Above

BaRise Above funds individual activity wishes for foster children through an online application process. All children who are in the physical care and custody of the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF), are eligible. 

Kiva Centers

Located in Worcester, Kiva Centers is a peer-led, trauma-informed organization offering support groups, training, and resources for individuals seeking mental health and recovery support.

Statewide Resources

Adoption Journeys

The statewide program providing specialized post-adoption support to families living in Massachusetts who have children through adoption or permanent legal guardianship. Services to families include adoption-focused home-based counseling, support groups, social activities, advocacy, and referral. Services to professionals include consultation and training.

Massachusetts Behavioral Health Help Line

A free, confidential service available 24/7, offering assistance in finding mental health and substance use services. Interpretation services are available in over 200 languages.

MA Association for Mental Health (MAMH)

Since 1913, MAMH has worked to improve understanding of mental health conditions and combat disparities in health services access across the state.

National Resources

Mental Health America (MHA)

A leading community-based nonprofit dedicated to addressing the needs of those living with mental health conditions by promoting mental health as integral to overall wellness.

NAMI National HelpLine

Offers free, nationwide peer-support services, information, resource referrals, and support to people living with mental health conditions and their loved ones.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration

A U.S. federal agency focused on improving behavioral health nationwide. It promotes mental health, prevents substance misuse, and supports recovery through resources, treatment, and policy guidance. SAMHSA aims to ensure equitable access to care and better outcomes for individuals and communities.
